David Kibbe is the only helpful fashion guru in my opinion. So much style advice is about emulating the “ideal” face and body (usually the hourglass body type and the oval face,) while the Kibbe system recognizes a spectrum of different types of beauty and teaches how to complement the features one already possesses. I’m glad more people are discovering him. He’s a genius, in my opinion.

I'm a Kibbe believer, too. It's helpful.

I worked at his salon Metamorphosis in the early '90s answering phones and putting together makeup kits. It was fascinating stuff to be around.

The kibbie system has also changed my life. This is one of the only essays I’ve been able to find on it. Thanks for sharing!

The Kibbe system is indeed very helpful.

I enjoy Kibbe, but think he stopped too soon with the “over 5 foot 7” category. Designating all tall women as either with shoulders (FN), without shoulders (D) or without shoulders but with boobs (SD) is bizarrely restrictive. (I have shoulders and accommodate curve - SD, or Soft FN?) No wonder FNs are the most common category if everything from the collarbone down doesn’t count!

Is there a similar system for men's bodies?

Not me thinking how could a Mavis Beacon knockoff typing system help someone with their body…lol.
